Information on Permit Fees

Building Permit Fees

  • Permit fees are payable at the time of permit issuance.
  • Fees are based on total value of construction (not on the cost) as determined by the building department.
  • Work done without a permit shall be double (2X) the original fee.
  • The fee is based on the value of the entire project, including trades.
  • Construction costs are rounded to the next highest whole $1000 (i.e. $10,200 = $11,000)
  • A copy of the signed contract must be provided if the project is subject to HIC registration.
  • Fees are not refundable once the permit has been issued.

 

New construction, additions, alterations, repairs and demolition —$15/$1,000 (one and two-family), $20/$1000 (other than 1 or 2 family).

Residential Cluster Development – $20/$1000 (more than 2 homes)

Occupancy permit—$125

Temporary occupancy permit—$50.00

Re-inspection fee $75

Renewal of expired permit – $125/year

Replacement of Lost or Damaged Permit Card – $30

Electrical Permit Fees

  • The inspector of wires shall approve all fees.  Fees shall be made by check or money order.
  • Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable, except int he case of a contractor change.
  • Permits are void after one year.
  • Final cost affidavits shall be submitted prior to final inspections or electrical installations with fees $2000 or greater.
  • The inspector of wires may use methods including, but not limited to, R.S. Means, other cost estimating publications, and/or signed contracts to confirm the cost.
  • Work done without a permit shall be double (2X) the original fee.

 

Certificate of insurance, workers’ compensation insurance affidavit and proof of license must be included with each application for a permit to perform electrical work.

$25/$1000 of the estimated cost of electrical work.  Includes labor, equipment and materials (residential). $35/$1000 of the estimated cost of electrical work.  Includes labor, equipment and materials (commercial).

$10 per panel for solar installations

$75 minimum residential fee, $125 minimum commercial fee

$75 re-inspection fee for work not complete

ANNUAL INSTITUTIONAL PERMIT

Category/Fee

First 100,00 s.f. or less – $250

Each additional 100,000  s.f. or fraction thereof – $100

Remainder over 1,000,000 – $800

Plumbing and Gas Permit Fees

$15 per fixture or $50 (whichever is greater) – residential.  $17 per fixture or $125 (whichever is greater) – commercial.

$50 Re-inspection fee if work not up to code

Fines:  Any work started without obtaining a permit or proper notification to the inspector shall be subject to permit fee being doubled.

Sheet Metal Permit Fees

$15/$1000 for 1 and 2-family dwellings

$20/$1000 for other than 1 or 2 family dwellings (minimum fee: $75)

Additional Building Permit Fees

After hours inspections – $100 Residential (1 and 2 Family)/$250 an hour for Commercial

Annual Billboard Fee Digital – $20,000-$25,000 per year based on location

Annual Billboard Fee Static – $15,000 per year

Family Accessory Living Area (FALA) annual fee – $75

Fire Alarm/Suppression System – $2.00/$1000

Signs – $17/$1000

Temporary Signs – $100

Temporary Structures, Tents – $75
